The Seacoast chapter sponsors several workshops on topics from the basics of starting your own business to small business taxes. We also invite business experts and industry consultants to conduct seminars and share their expertise with our clients.  The following is a description of currently scheduled workshops.

How to Start or Grow a Small Business

This Workshop leads a budding entrepreneur through the basics of starting a business with a discussion of “what it takes” to operate a small business; finding a niche, planning the start-up, and financial implications, as well as  topics required to form and register a business.  Various financial aspects of developing a winning business plan are discussed; including cash flow planning, balance sheet understanding, and other financial fundamentals. This leads to the development of financial projections for your business concept, which are refined into a Business Plan to present to funding sources and to manage your new business.

     Expected Frequency -  thirteen times a year.

Small Business Finances: What you Need to Know

Current and potential small business owners are invited to this no-nonsense, easy to understand introduction to the essentials of small business finances.  How do you perform quick "back of the envelope" calculations to see if an idea might be profitable?  How to read and understand standard financial statements like the income statement, cash flow statement, and balance sheet.  Attendees will also get a chance to "follow the money" with real-world examples of financials from small businesses like yours.

     Expected Frequency - once a year.

Small Business Tax Workshop
Covers the tax issues involved in running a business: Business organizations; Employer Identification Number (EIN); record keeping; Income, Employment and Unemployment Taxes; independent contractor vs. employee; withholding and depositing taxes; self employment taxes and estimated payments; Profit & Loss Schedule C; business use of home and vehicles; and other related topics.

     Expected Frequency - not scheduled (please call if interested).

Using the Internet to Start or Grow a Small Business
This workshop, for aspiring and existing business owners, provides essential information about how to leverage the Internet to run a small business more efficiently and attract new customers.  The workshop details the process of creating a successful website and Internet presence.  In addition, attendees receive guidance on how to conduct an effective online marketing campaign.  Finally, the workshop discusses e-commerce websites, where small business owners can sell products to customers directly through the Internet.

     Expected Frequency - four times a year.
